Maxwell Cranford is the Senior Cannabis Consultant for Holon Law. With over a decade of experience managing, expanding and optimizing regulated cannabis operations across North America, Maxwell advises cannabis corporations in cultivation practices, commercial operations and regulatory adherence. He brings both technical expertise and strategic business acumen to help new and established companies to navigate the complex landscape of cannabis production.

Maxwell Cranford specializes in GACP cultivation and GMP processing facility establishment and optimization with hands-on experience identifying and resolving concerns including production efficiency, local and federal regulatory compliance, license acquisition, facility expansion, sanitation, safety, and quality standards. Within his 12 years in commercial operations Maxwell has guided clients through the nuanced requirements of cannabis best practices across the United States and Europe.

Maxwell began on the ground floor of the nation’s first recreational cannabis program after earning his Bachelor’s in Horticulture specializing in hemp from Colorado State University. He has operated and advised on dozens of commercial cannabis facilities across the US. From construction to production, Maxwell oversaw the launch of the first GMP-compliant medical cannabis facility in Northern Virginia as Beyond Hello’s Director of Cultivation. After that, he established Virginia’s first licensed cannabis plant nursery, fueling an entirely new market segment within the state. His years of experience working with Virginia regulators allow for a unique and practical perspective when developing license and company frameworks.

In these roles, he has written and trained employees on hundreds of operational procedures, covering topics such as cultivation operations, commercial efficiency, compliance, and safety. His innovations in workflow reduce space and energy consumption while prioritizing plant yield and quality and reducing loss from microbial contamination. He has worked with all relative municipalities such as water and fire departments, medical and recreational cannabis regulators, pharmaceutical boards, and local governments.

His consulting work spans the full lifecycle of commercial cannabis operations.
